Of course I want to be like them。 They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire。 They will live forever。

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest。 I hate him more than all the others。 I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe。

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie。 Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality。 But many of the fey despise humans。 Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King。

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him--and face the consequences。

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed。 But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself。

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black comes the stunning The Folk of the Air trilogy filled with twists and enchantment, as one girl learns the meaning of true power when she finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue。

Overall a very good story for getting into fantasy for the first time, it has simple world building which is also super captivating and it isn't very hard to get into either。 Protagonist is a badass girl, and she's well written, the “antagonist”, Carden is also a well crafted character。 Cardan and jude’s relationship as enemies is done so well, I loved it so much。 So so much。 The court politics are also done so perfectly and this book really did keep me on the edge of my seat, not because of the Overall a very good story for getting into fantasy for the first time, it has simple world building which is also super captivating and it isn't very hard to get into either。 Protagonist is a badass girl, and she's well written, the “antagonist”, Carden is also a well crafted character。 Cardan and jude’s relationship as enemies is done so well, I loved it so much。 So so much。 The court politics are also done so perfectly and this book really did keep me on the edge of my seat, not because of the pace, but mostly because of the amount of shocking and sudden twists。 It just keeps getting better as the trilogy progresses。 “Most of all, I hate you because I think of you。 Often。 It's disgusting, and I can't stop。”“Cardan looks at me as though he's never seen me before。 He looks at me as though no one has ever spoken to him like this。 Maybe no one has。”“like taking a dare to run over knives, like an adrenaline strike of lightning, like the moment when you've swum too far out in the sea and there is no going back, only cold black water closing over your head。” 。。。more

The plot was interesting but predictable。 I also wanted more moments of Jude and Cardan simply talking and having more chemistry。

I loved this series! Great start with introducing YA enemies to lovers/ YA fantasy to younger readers。 The ending was a bit disappointing in my opinion though。

Do you ever sometimes wish you could go back in time and re-experience a really good book or series for the first time again?? Because same!An enticing world that's as sinister as it is appealing。 Whatever a reader is looking for -- heart-in-throat action, deadly romance, double crossing, moral complexity, it's all in there -- this is one heck of a ride。 Highly Recommend !!! I really wanted to not enjoy these books。。。 but UGH they were really good。 This series pulled me out of my May reading slump in ONE WEEKEND。 👑I truly thought this would be some overhyped series that didn’t live up to expectations。 I WAS WRONG。 This series is fun, exciting, surprising, and had everything I wanted from a YA fantasy。 The one thing that keeps this series from being a perfect is that it is so enemies-to-lovers it HURTS!!! One of the BEST fantasy novels out there。 There is nothing negative that I can say about this book。Holly Black's writing was exceptional, and the plot was utterly captivating, I just could not put the books down。 The plot twists were amazing。 The character development was well-thought out and I loved to see Cardan and Jude growing together and becoming better on this journey。 I recommend this novel to all fantasy readers。 One of the BEST fantasy novels out there。 There is nothing negative that I can say about this book。Holly Black's writing was exceptional, and the plot was utterly captivating, I just could not put the books down。 The plot twists were amazing。 The character development was well-thought out and I loved to see Cardan and Jude growing together and becoming better on this journey。 I recommend this novel to all fantasy readers。 。。。more

And when you take the dustjackets off, the underneath has beautiful colored foil on the spine and the cover, and each cover has a different design。 The titles were picked out perfectly for each book! Book one;The title itself is clue to the entirety of the book。 It is a darker book, which is the point, so expect that when diving into this imaginative world。 Some elements were intense, due to The Cruel Prince。 The main character is trying to navigate a world where she isn't wanted, and I feel she loses herself in the process, or maybe she is being remade into something new。 I didn't connect with all the characters。 There is a lot of bloodshed。 The more I read the book the more interesting it was, but it is not one of my favorites and I found my attention wandering。 I will be continuing the series to see how the characters change。 Despite it not being one my favorite books, I gave it higher stars because the writing style was great。 3/4 StarsBook two;I had reservations going into this book, for I didn't relish in reading book one: The Cruel Prince, for it's severe cruelty and inexcusable abuse between the characters。 I am glad that I persevered into book two despite my apprehensiveness。 The cruelty within book one really set up the story for going into book two; it provided a much needed backstory and foundation, so the savagery wasn't as intense in The Wicked King, though of course there is still bloodthirstiness, the main trait for The Folk。 I really enjoyed going on a journey with the characters, even though I feel as though the main character drowns in her troubles。 The political intrigue kept my on my toes, anxiously waiting in suspense to see who will do what, how, where, when and why, and what the consequences of those actions will be。 The curveballs were delightful。 The writing style continued to have a smooth, even voice。 Overall, very well written。 I am more excited to be going into book three: The Queen of Nothing。 5 StarsBook three;A perfect ending to this dark yet whimsy trilogy。 Book three picked up right where book two ended。 A majority of the characters grow, and become more powerful and extraordinary。 I skipped any steamy or potential steamy scenes。 The epilogue left me satisfied。 I did not want to put the book down! Overall, very well written。 5 StarsOverall, I enjoyed reading this series and would recommend to others who love dark themes and gray characters inside a whimsical world。 。。。more

Read it because of the HYPE ! not what I was expecting very disappointed。 It is a war story。 It is only about power that is the main feeling of the book 。。。There is no love story, the two main characters are rarely together。。。 It is a battle story, fighting, conquering。 Very long spans for nothing。Because there was so many high recommendations, maybe I was expecting more !

This review has spoilersI warned youThis was one of the most overhyped series I have ever read。 The fact that this is one of the most popular series on booktok astounds me。 This series was awful。 It I’ll give it to Holly Black the idea and the world building were great。 I was entranced by the Faerie world, and loved the setting。 But honestly after that it just fell off。 I could see what she was trying to accomplish, but she didn’t quite hit the mark。 In fact she completely missed the mark。 I’ll start with Jude, there are very few main characters that annoyed me more than she does。 Her whole attitude for the majority of the series was awful。 She was overconfident and stuck up。 She’s always talking about this grand plan of hers and how she’s so strong and smart but she created most of the problems she credited herself with solving。 To me she acted like a sullen child for a good 7/8 of the series and couldn’t deal with rejection or constructive feedback, she always had to be right。 She’s the kind of person who would self-destruct if given the chance。 Now let's talk about Cardan。 I really don’t understand what was so amazing about him。 He was a little brat。 He basically spent the first half of the book running around with his little gang of rich snobby kids getting drunk and bullying Jude。 I know he had a rough past, but he also seemed childish to me。 He clearly has an alcohol addiction and cannot cope with his problems, which after a while got boring because I was tired of the fact that nobody in this book even makes and effort to deal with their shit。 That being said, I don’t think we learned enough about him。 I know there was a sequel that focused on him but I wanted to know more about him in the first three other than he was a prince, an alcoholic, he lived with his brother, and said brother flogged him。 Moving on to Cardan and Jude as a couple。 I don’t like them together。 I’m not sure what’s so endearing about their relationship, but I could not figure it out。 First off, Cardan bullied Jude for years。 I hate relationships where one bullies the other but then they get together and it's like it never happened。 To me their relationship perpetuates the stereotype “if he’s being mean to you he likes you”。 I also don’t understand their revelations of love for the other。 I thought both of them were shallow and immature and the premise of their relationship was one trying to one up the other。 I didn’t see any actions that redeemed one in the others eyes enough for that person to love them。 I mean I know “the heart chooses what it wants” or whatever but I didn’t think their relationship had a good buildup at all, all I saw was that they hated each other and every so often they would end up kissing or groping each other in a closet。 Not once in three books did they sit down and have a meaningful conversation。 I didn't feel like they knew anything about each other。 I genuinely think that if you sat down and asked Jude when Cardan’s birthday was she wouldn’t know and vice versa。 I don't get what’s so hot about one threatening to physically harm the other multiple times, even going as far as threatening to kill them。 (I am aware that there are other YA couples who also do that, Poppy and Hawke for example, but I’m not too keen on any of those relationships either)。 Moving away from the main characters, I didn’t find the side characters appealing either。 Like I said before the only characters I enjoyed reading about were Vivi and Heather。 But Madoc, Locke, Taryn, Nicasia, the bomb, the roach, ect。 No thank you。 I know that you are supposed to hate some of them but I didn’t like any of them。 Jude’s little posey was fine but I also didn’t feel like I got to know any of them。 I learned little bits and pieces but not enough for me to connect or care for any of them。 Madoc and Taryn were just annoying little bitches。 Taryn betrayed Jude a whole load of times, the only smart thing that girl ever did was murder Locke。 Madoc starts the series by ruthlessly murdering Jude's parents so I didn't have a lot of hope for him, but despite that he let me down, he seemed very complex at the beginning, however that facade quickly gave way to the truth that he is utterly shallow, boring, and has nothing going for him。 Locke obviously pissed me off, but the guy lives alone in a manor because his parents are dead so no one should have held any hope whatsoever for him。 Finally Oak, I mean he's a child and I do not like children, and he is a prime example of why。 He was so damn annoying, to me he was nothing more than a spoiled privileged child who gets what he wants whenever he wants it。 Just imagining his voice drives me crazy。 So in the end, just like the rest of this book the side characters were boring, and had no personality。 I didn't learn enough about any of them and so they all ended up feeling external。 I would rate this 1。75 stars。 It’s hard to read a three book series about characters you don’t give a shit about, but I did。 And in the end, it was a serious waste of my time。 。。。more
